Nozawa Onsen Village Facts

The charming village has a great mix of ancient and contemporary Japanese culture with cobblestone streets and traditional inns and shops. It is popular for its abundance of hot springs dating back to the 8th century that are scattered throughout the village.

A good range of accommodation is available to suit all budgets from traditional Ryokans, inns, humble hotels and self-contained options. Most rooms are Japanese style with tatami flooring, futons and shared bathroom facilities. Best of all, it is sans big chain hotels. The ski hill is accessible from most accommodation on foot, that said, as the village lies below the ski hill, at one point of the day you will have to walk up a hill.

By Japanese standards, the village offers a reasonable amount of nightlife with a few bars (nothing like Niseko or Hakuba) and a great range of restaurants and excellent Japanese cuisine.

The most popular après ski activity are the onsens so be prepared to get naked! Other activities include snowmobiling, snowshoeing plus a swimming pool with wave pool. Nozawa Onsen is close to Nagano and many other popular ski resorts making it a perfect day trip to other resorts.

The village offers a couple of convenience stores, plenty of souvenir shops and 2 international ATMs.
