Shiga Kogen Ski Resort is located in the Nagano region on the main island of Japan. Shiga Kogen was the host to many of the Alpine Events for the 1998 Winter Olympics and provides the highest altitude and most extensive ski area in all of Japan
Shiga Kogen is a massive area with 18 interconnected ski resorts all accessed on the one lift pass, which is called the ‘Super Pass’. You can ski or snowboard from area to area or use the resort shuttle bus that is available for ‘free’ for those who have a valid ski pass. In total there are 51 lifts including chairlifts and gondolas.
Having the highest elevation of any of Japan’s ski resorts, Shiga prides itself on the snow lasting longer, where you can ski well into late spring.

Considering Shiga Kogen this ski season? Keep up to date with the latest weather and snow forecasts.
Shiga Kogen offers a range of hotels spread out to suit all budgets. You will find the majority have limited entertainment options outside of skiing and only the dining room for relaxing in or there are the Onsens in most Hotels. At night getting around is not an option unless you are staying close to the Ichinose area which is a collection of Hotels in the one area and some individual restaurants. As with may Japanese ski resorts, there isn’t really much in the way of nightlife. Shiga Kogen is the closest ski resort to the Snow Monkeys.
