Madarao is located in the northern part of Nagano Prefecture, between Nozawa Onsen and Myoko Kogen. Cold Siberian winds come off the Japan Sea dumping up to 10-13 metres of snow annually on Madarao. It is uncrowded, offers plenty of Japow and is great for families. This little gem of a resort is well worth a visit.
Mt Madarao reaches a height of 1382 meters and operates 15 lifts, 60% of the courses are ungroomed, so there’s a good chance that you’ll ski deep powder. The ski area features a unique bowl-shape and was host to Japan’s first Freestyle Skiing Competition. Lifts are open daily from 08:30 – 17:00 with night skiing available on weekends.
The neighbouring resort which is linked by the ski runs is called Tangram and when you include this area in your lift pass the skiable terrain is large and caters very well to all standards of skier and snowboarder.
