A La Niña Japan winter 2018 event has a 50-60% chance of emerging by autumn, according to Japan’s weather bureau. If the sea water temperatures being monitored near the equator in the Pacific Ocean continue to record cooler temperatures than their benchmark levels, a La Niña may emerge before winter in the Northern Hemisphere.
According to history, La Nina can cause absolute mayhem – which is all good for skiers and riders. Records show that Myoko Kogen, one of Japan’s snowiest ski resorts, received over 22 metres of snow during the two seasons affected by La Nina. Can you imagine what 22 metres of snow even looks like? All the Japan ski resorts could suffer from these ‘terrible’ conditions of just too much snow!
For now, we can only hope that this all comes true and remember, even if La Nina doesn’t bring the goods, an average snow season in Japan is better than a once in 20+ year season in Australia!
