Wanaka
Wanaka is an exiting town ship and overlooks a spectacular lake and offers some of the most impressive mountain scenery in New Zealand. It is one of the two main accommodation centres in the Southern Lakes District. From Wanaka you can ski or board at Cardrona and Treble Cone. Plus you can go to the Snow Farm for Nordic skiing or the Snow Park for the freestyle Terrain Park. Wanaka is an access point to some of the best heli-skiing in New Zealand; Harris Mountain heliskking.
Location Wanaka is located towards the bottom of New Zealand’s South Island, 428km from Christchurch and 71 km from Queenstown.
Access Most people arrive from Australia via Christchurch and travel onto Wanaka by rental car, or fly onto Queenstown and from there pick up a car or local transfer to Wanaka. Direct flights from Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne also operate into Queenstown one to five times each week.
