Asahidake 'White Room' Powder Tours
A trip to Furano wouldn’t be complete without a visit to Asahidake to ski a live volcano.
Asahidake is in the northern part of Daisetsuzan National Park and is the highest mountain in Hokkaido at 2,290m. It is also a live volcano and on clear days you can see plumes of white smoke billowing from its vents. One cable-car gives lift access to the tree line providing for 600 meters vertical of widely spaced glades.
While not an expansive area, many people ski the best snow of their lives here. Asahidake gets more snow accumulations than any other resort in Japan. As there is no avalanche control and ski patrol, we recommend a guide.

Tokachidake Backcountry
Just forty minutes from Furano is the Tokachidake area of Daisetsuzan National Park, sometimes referred to as the ‘Playground of the Gods.’ A highlight on a day tour here is to touch the volcanic steam of Mt Tokachi or to ski the Giant course of Mt Furano, which is some of the most amazing powder skiing in Hokkaido. Days are finished soaking in the many famous springs of the area.
Expect 2-3 hours skinning for skiers or snow-shoeing for snowboarders and then vertical descents of around 700 meters. This can be varied to suit your fitness and skiing levels.

RECOMMENDED GEAR LIST
1 day backcountry gear rental set (includes poles, avalanche transceiver, shovel, probe, snowshoes and backpack) - can be hired on the day.
Powder Ski Clinics
Many Aussies who come to Furano can ski, but aren’t used to skiing the powder so much, so we have created our ‘Cold Smoke’ Powder Clinics. These are 1 or 2 day clinics, clients can choose, and are at Kamui on the first day and Asahidake on the second. Coached by a professional instructor who will take you to the best of the untracked powder stashes at Kamui Ski Links and Asahidake.
Techniques include body positioning, weighting and un-weighting and turning rhythm. We will also be showing you how to use backcountry safety equipment and powder skiing through the glades.
Emerge from two days of bottomless powder and blinding face-shots with the ability to rip through the powder on your own terms.
