Kimamaya Boutique Hotel Review

Kimamaya Boutique Hotel is just what the name says, a boutique hotel and one of the finest luxury alpine properties in Niseko. With just nine exclusive rooms of individual design and private ensuite facilities it offers charm, comfort and a distinctly personal, cosy experience.

The fully renovated building has retained all the authenticity and magic of the laid-back lodge originally envisioned by Yasuo and Keiko Watanabe over 25 years ago. Albeit with a renewed focus on pleasing the senses and capturing unforgettable moments in winter wonderland. Located right in the heart of Niseko’s Hirafu middle village, Kimamaya is part of Odin’s vision to bring intelligent luxury to one of the world’s great snow resorts.

Kimamaya Boutique Hotel Features

Hotel

Built in 1985 and redesigned in 2009, Kimamaya by Odin is a cosy micro-boutique hotel set in the heart of Niseko's Hirafu village. After a long day on the slopes, Kimamaya is the ideal place for a Japanese back massage, shiatsu, aromatherapy or full body massage in an oasis of tranquility.

Start by soaking in a choice of wooden (moku) or stone (ishi) spa tubs, before moving to the delights of Kimamaya’s massage sanctuary. The massage therapies are designed to bed you down for the night ahead – just to get you ready to go full throttle again tomorrow.

The Barn is Kimamaya’s supreme food establishment. Set in a stunning building inspired by traditional Hokkaido farm architecture, the Barn offers an all-season alpine food and wine fare in Niseko’s warmest authentic bistro atmosphere.

The lounge is the beating heart of Kimamaya. You will have a glass of wine or coffee, listen to a jazz track or read Monocle around the soothing flames of the fireplace here. Walk with bare feet across the timber flooring and kick back in one of the lazy couches. And do leave your own books behind to make sure the library is better off when you leave than when you came.

‘Luxury boutique hotel’ does not have to mean ‘no kids allowed’. Certainly not here. Quite the contrary. There is a kid’s room filled with cushions (ready for major pillow fights) and a big screen TV downstairs for evening fun.

Rooms

The idea behind Andrew Bell’s four configurations for the nine rooms at Kimamaya is simplicity itself: warm, friendly and beautiful. They have all been designed with utmost care for your comfort and well-being. From colours, textures and materials, to lighting and accessories. Premium down beddings and cotton linens are awaiting to gently wrap you to sleep after a long day on the mountain. You can even choose from three types of pillows – soft, medium and hard. The lofts feature an in-room mezzanine and accommodate four adults (plus one child if required). And while the audiovisual set-up lets you pig out on after-ski movies, connectivity helps you post the latest photos from the slopes on Facebook. Every room is equipped with ensuite bathrooms featuring rain showers and toilets.

Alpine 1

A lovely room with relaxed furnishing welcoming two adults with textured materials in a warm atmosphere. Features a European king size bed which can be set up as two single beds.

Alpine 2

The ottoman at the foot of the twin bed sets the unhurried tone of this charming room. Great care has been given to textures, materials and colours to make this your true breathing space between long days in the great outdoor.
